Realtor Barry Berg talks about the Spring real estate market in the Twin Cities and how we can help buy or sell a home.Realtor Barry Berg has over 40 years of experience as a realtor in the Twin Cities.

Spring is fleeting in the Twin Cities - not just the weather but traditionally also the real estate market. However, 2023 is shaping up differently and that means there is continued opportunity to buy or sell a home. Partner Barry Berg offers a perspective for buyers and sellers this season.

 Spring is Full of Possibilities

Historically, the peak of real estate sales activity simmers down by late spring, so prospective sellers are traditionally encouraged to list their properties by March or April.  That’s not the case this year. The Berg Larsen Group anticipates that a healthy seller’s market will continue throughout May and June. This is great news if you have been thinking about a move but were unsure about the timing.

“The sooner we have the chance to start discussing things, the better we can help you,” says Barry.

Sellers: Spring into Action to List Your Home for May or June

Act quickly before listing your property by focusing on a few high-priority projects to get your home ready to sell. Touch up the paint and declutter wherever necessary. And while a spring yard cleanup would be ideal, remember that your competition is dealing with the same weather conditions. After all, it’s May in Minnesota! In due time, you can manicure the lawn and tend to landscaping. Meanwhile, take advantage of market activity and get your home ready to be viewed as quickly as possible.

Barry wants sellers to know there are serious buyers ready to make an offer but there’s not as much inventory this year. This is an opportune time to list your home sooner rather than later because most buyers want to be in their new home by August, especially if they have school-age children.

Buyers: Know What You Want and Be Ready When You Find It

Be prepared to act when the right opportunity comes along.

Work with a Realtor to help you identify the right property for you, the one that will grow with you through different life stages. Hone in on specific neighborhoods. Get a sense of where you’d like to live and keep a watch for new listings.

While many people are waiting for the “perfect” house to come along, Barry reframes this notion.

“If you find a house that checks all of the boxes, you’ve found the house for you. Don’t miss an opportunity by waiting for the perfect house to come along because there is no such thing,” says Barry. “While you’re waiting to find the perfect home, life is passing you by.”

Being financially prepared can help you make an irresistible offer. Be sure to know what you can afford and have a pre-approval letter in hand when things are getting serious. We can recommend lenders to walk you through the pre-approval process, which will also help shorten the timeline from offer to closing. “The right property and the right buyer could be out there right now,” and Barry says he and the Berg Larsen Group team are ready to help you.
